LEC 3 Minute Update - April 6, 2023

Mornin’, all! And welcome to this week’s three minute update. I’m here from Progressive Field, staving off my excitement for opening day tomorrow. You know, it’s been too long since I’ve spent $12.00 on a hot dog, but I’m ready! Especially if the weather holds out just long enough to keep my shades on!

And speaking of tomorrow, Friday, please note that the office will be closed, along with both Scout shops over this weekend. We will all be happy to see you back on Monday 10th!

Here’s what’s new in this week’s three minute-update: Camperships, Training updates, Cub Scout Activities, Camporees, and service opportunities, and Summer Camp job openings, and an important upcoming webinar from National.

Campership Application deadlines are upcoming! NYLT Campership Applications are due April 15th, and Wood Badge Campership applications are due May 1st. Send Phil Williams any questions you have.

ILST and NYLT registrations are still open! Dave Sechnick and Jen Folkman can your questions about the courses.

Scoutmaster Basic Training and BALOOEDGE training, and mobile rock wall training are upcoming over the next few weeks. Check out the Council calendar, and register now!

A quick note about mobile climbing wall policies: unit reservations will now require two trained facilitators to use them, and mobile climbing wall training certification needs to be renewed annually. As we continue to strive to make the walls safer, and in an effort to equipment in as good of condition for as long as possible, these polices will be the norm moving forward with the mobile rock walls. Contact Mike Zeber if you have any questions.

And here’s some BIG NEWS! The field team has trainings on the calendar for Membership Growth best practices and product sale ins and outs for this fall. This isn’t your usual fall kickoff, so make sure to come on by and learn the very latest in resources to make your recruitment drive and product sale successful AND efficient! Our locations include Cleveland, North Olmsted, Oberlin, Mentor, and Warrensville Heights over the month of July. In addition to these live trainings, we will also be live streaming each of them over Zoom. Register now!

Service Opportunities for all units include the Cleveland MarathonScouts Trash the Trash Day, and Beaver Day at Firelands! Troops can Register here, and contact Danny with your questions. Cub Packs MUST contact Danny BEFORE registering to make sure there are age-appropriate projects available.

Additionally, for adults 21 and over, Wilderness Engineers at Beaumont is upcoming this May. If you’re interested in helping, contact Chris and register here.

Troop Camporees are quickly upcoming! Beaumont’s Spring Camporee is in April, and contact Rob Burnham is you contact for questions. Firelands’ Camporee is in May, and Jess Weaver is your contact there.

Cub Scouts: There’s a silver screen overnighter in Elyria this April, Tough Cubber, S’More Cub Adventures, and a Crushers’ Campout to fill your calendars with! Sign up for these things now!

Lastly, apply for a summer job at camp! You can do so here, send Anthony Dworning any questions you have.

Finally, the National office is hosting a webinar for Scouts BSA leaders to discuss the various resources that are available for Scouts with varying special needs or disabilities. The best way to ensure a quality program for all Scouts is to be prepared. So we encourage you to attend this free webinar on April 29th at 11am. You can register here.

Okay folks, that’s a wrap for this week’s three minute update! Thanks for all you do, and thanks for being you! We’ll see you next time!
