Cub Scout Virtual Adventures FAQ
What is Cub Scout Virtual Adventures?
Cub Scout Virtual Adventures is a brand-new program from Lake Erie Council that brings the fun of the Cub Scout program home. Cub Scout Virtual Adventures is a subscription-based program where children can participate from the comfort of their homes. After signing up, your Scout will receive an adventure box with all of the materials needed to complete the first 14 weeks of the Cub Scout program, including achievements to recognize your Scout as they complete their Cub Scout Adventures. Additionally, you will receive access to Google Classrooms that contain digital resources and professionally produced video den meetings delivered by professional Scouters. Members of Cub Scout Virtual Adventures are also invited to local meet-ups such as day hikes, fishing days, and star gazing. Every member of Cub Scout Virtual Adventures is a member of the Boy Scouts of America and is entitled to all rights and privileges.
Why was Cub Scout Virtual Adventures created?
The year 2020 has created many challenges for families across the country. In 2020, the values that Scouting teaches are just as important as ever. After learning in the spring and summer that many den leaders were overwhelmed by the increased expectations of working from home, keeping their kids focused on virtual school, and dealing with the anxieties of a new world, we realized that for the Scouting program to continue, we needed to provide a method for our families to participate that is easy and accessible.
How much does it cost?
Cub Scout Virtual Adventures is a monthly subscription. There are two options for Cub Scout Virtual adventure subscriptions. Families can sign up for the virtual only program or the virtual with in person experiences. Cub Scout Virtual Adventures costs $39.99/month and Cub Scout Virtual Adventures with in-person experiences costs $79.99/month.
If my child is already a member of a Cub Scout Pack, are they able to participate?
Absolutely! All Cub Scouts are encouraged to participate in Cub Scout Virtual Adventures. Because Cub Scout Virtual Adventures subscription includes membership in the Boy Scouts of America, current members will receive a $10/month discount. Additionally, if your den registers for Cub Scout Virtual Adventures together, your den will receive additional discounts.
Children who aren’t currently registered in the Boy Scouts of America can either join as part of their local pack or can join Lake Erie Council Pack 1.

If one of my scouts is an in-person pack, and one of my scouts is virtual, what are the differences between the programs, and do they have the same opportunities?
The core aspects of the Cub Scout program are the same whether you join Cub Scout Virtual Adventures or your local pack. The differences are how often local packs meet, the number of activities they participate in outside of Pack meetings, etc., and meeting schedules.
Are there specific times I can watch the videos?

How does this keep the outing in Scouting?

Additionally, if your Scout is signed up for Cub Scout Virtual Adventures with in-person experiences, they will be able to attend 7 camping trips over the course of the year.
Can I offset the virtual cost with selling popcorn or syrup?
Finances should never be the reason why families do not choose join our program. Families who join the Lake Erie Council Pack can pay for their Scouting year by participating in the Popcorn Sale this fall. Scout’s who sell popcorn through the Lake Erie Council Pack will receive 40% commission towards their subscription fee.
Example: If a Scout sells $1,000 worth of popcorn, the Scout will receive $400 towards their subscription.
The Scout and family will work directly with Greg Voyzey and Heather McMillan to sell popcorn either through online sales or our take order sale. Please contact Greg.Voyzey@scouting.org or Heather.McMillan@scouting.org if you should have any questions
If I pay for the subscription and then quit a month in, can I still attend events?
Once you terminate your subscription, you will lose access to all opportunities including in-person experiences, meet-ups, google classrooms, and monthly pack meetings. You will keep any adventure boxes you have received.
Can I just pick up my subscription box?
Not at this time. In order to reduce the number of people coming in and out of the Lake Erie Council Unit Service Center, we will be shipping the boxes to your house.
