February 75th Anniversary Staff Highlights

John Hogan - Commissioner

"Some things never change. Beaumont has always been an outstanding place to go, and has always taken good care of its scouts and leaders. It's all about serving youth, learning new skills, and making friends that last a lifetime."

Scouting Background: Eagle Scout from Troop 70 at Ascension Church on Cleveland's west side. Received the Vigil Honor as a youth. Currently volunteers at the unit and council level, and serves as a Camp Commissioner during Scouts BSA Resident Camp. (John has been a Commissioner at both Beaumont and Firelands, began doing this in 2007)

Beaumont Camp Staff: 5 summers on staff, 1970-1974 in Camp A (now called Camp McCahill)

When John served on staff, Beaumont operated as three separate camps all Summer! Started out in the commissary and trading post, worked in nature, scoutcraft and aquatics as well. National Camp School in Aquatics after he turned 21.

Favorite Memories: Attending Beaumont, Clendening, and Tinnerman, working 9 weeks of Summer Camp each year on staff, teaching younger Scouts skills. Another favorite memory was when a cow from a neighboring farm wandered onto camp property and staff had to go run and find the other cow!
