3-Minute Update - February 12, 2026

Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host, Anthony Dworning coming to you from Firelands Scout Reservation Seems

We have one Klondike left for 2026! Firelands Scout Reservation will have their Klondike from February 20th-22nd. Sign up now!

Join us for Sap Camp at Beaumont Scout Reservation on March 7 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for a day that is equal parts sweet, smoky, and seriously fun.

And yes, there will be a pancake lunch! Come learn the history, the hands on process, and the magic that turns sap into syrup. Bring your curiosity, your appetite, and maybe clothes that can handle a little adventure. Do not miss it. This one is going to be sweet.

If your unit is interested in selling Scout’s Own Syrup and Pancake Mix this spring, now is the perfect time to get involved. It is an easy, crowd pleasing way to raise funds and who can say no to a sweet breakfast?

We will have a full unit funding kit available in early March, making it simple to launch and succeed.

The Adventure Lab is the place to be, and they have programs for YOU!  All Labs are open to Scouts AND Students, so invite your friends. To register for a Badge Lab visit the Lab Calendar. Are you a new Scoutmaster or ASM? Thank you for jumping into the volcano!  Scoutmaster Basic Training will give you all the tools you need to lead and train the youth of your Scout Troop.  And we'll do it in an outdoor experience that will give you a lived appreciation for the challenges of a youth learning to lead in a weekend campout.  We have two sessions scheduled for 2026 - April 10-12 at Firelands and September 11-13 at Beaumont.  Register now at the link provided. BALOO training will be April 25th and 26th at Firelands. NYLT registration is still open for their course in June. 3-Minute Update - January 29, 2026

Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s (slightly longer than) 3-minute update. I’m your host, Tyler Matthews coming to you from inside a snow globe! Seems fitting! Hopefully everyone is staying warm out there during this nasty winter weather. Now, let’s jump into this week’s news.

Hey, let’s start out this week with a very important announcement. By now, most of you are aware that Safeguarding Youth Training has replaced the old Youth Protection Training. That new training is mandatory for all adults to complete BEFORE May 31st of this year. Even if your old YPT is valid for longer, everyone must complete the new training by the deadline. Don’t wait, the new training is available right now online at my.scouting.org. Lake Erie Council has been one of the highest performing councils for youth protection nationwide, so let’s keep that trend going and knock out this new training!

Registration for the Eagle Scout Class of 2025 Celebration Dinner is now open! The celebration dinner will be taking place at The American Croatian Lodge in Eastlake on February 28th beginning at 5pm. 3-Minute Update - January 16, 2026

Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host, Tyler Matthews coming to you from Liberty Hall in Philadelphia! This seemed appropriate given that we’ve just kicked off America 250, a yearlong 250th birthday celebration for the United States! Scouts and units are going to have plenty of opportunities to get involved and partake in some fun events all year long, so make sure you stay tuned in the coming weeks and months to get more information! Now, let’s jump into this weeks news.

Klondike reservations are open. January 23rd- 25th, and the 30th through February 1st are the 2 remaining Beaumont klondikes, and Firelands will have theirs from February 20th-22nd. Sign up now!

Solon troop 504 is hosting a First Aid Meet on February 8th from 11am-3pm at Solon School. This patrol based competition will test Scouts knowledge of first aid skills and team work. The cost is $15 per Scout and they ask that each patrol bring their own patrol first aid kit. Additionally, the Solon High drama club will be providing stage makeup and special effects for a realistic first aid experience. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity! Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host, Tyler Matthews and this week is the unit renewal deadline! That’s right, Friday, December 12th before 5pm, unit renewals are to be completed! This includes online submission through my.scouting, payment of the $100 charter fee, and a fully signed annual charter agreement. Please call your service executive or our membercare team for any assistance you need!

The deadline to nominate candidates for our council level awards is December 15th and nominations can be submitted to Michelle.Cali@scouting.org. If you know someone deserving of recognition at the unit, area, or council level then we want to hear about it! Find all the award descriptions and nomination forms on the council website.

You know what’s cool? Trained leaders! Do you want to be cool? Make sure that you and all leaders Safeguarding Youth Training is up to date, Hazardous weather training is complete, and your position specific training is complete as well. One last EDGE training for this year is taking place on December 21st at the Unit service center. Also, registrations for next summer’s Wood Badge course are now open. Don’t delay, sign up today!

The Cleveland Scout Shop will be providing an opportunity for the Scouting community to help local Scout members who may need uniforms and uniform items.  
 From now until December 14, a giving tree will be set up at the Scout Shop with giving cards.  These cards will have the first name of the Scout and their needs.  Supporters can purchase items that will be passed on. If you have a Scout in need or would like to help, please contact the staff at the Cleveland Scout Shop. If you have any questions you can email the Scout Shop.

Also, remember how I said that we had a great October? Well, we did 20% more growth this October than we did last year, and we were one of the top 5 councils in the whole country for percentage growth for October. Job well done everyone and thank you for helping to bring the joys of scouting to so many new families! Now, let’s get into this week’s news.

  • Unit Renewal season is here! As a reminder, a complete Unit Renewal includes:

The unit service center has a small stockpile of American flags ready to be retired. If your unit is planning a flag retirement and is in need of some additional flags, contact Heather at the service center to arrange for pickup.

Saturday December 6th and Saturday December 13th at Firelands Scout reservation, there will be wreath making, snowmen challenges, cookie decorating, wagon rides and caroling, AND a visit from the big man himself! Don’t miss this awesome family friendly day of holiday cheer at Firelands Scout reservation, sign up today!

3-Minute Update - November 6, 2025

Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host, Tyler Matthews coming to you from our membership tracker! Well with a new month comes new scouts dropping off of unit rosters. We took a step back to 5309 members, but we’re still climbing! Check your unit rosters every month to make sure all the names that should be there are still there. If any scouts lapse their membership and fall off your roster, call our membe rcare team for assistance! That said, we’ve welcomed more new scouts this fall than we did last year, and we’ve still got plenty of time to grow on that success! Now, let’s get into this weeks news.

Shoutout to all who’ve already sent submissions for our Together We Grow campaign. Thanks for helping bring more families into Scouting! If you haven’t jumped in yet, there’s still time! Every new Scout you recruit gets you entered into a drawing for our grand prize: four tickets to Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical at the KeyBank State Theatre, plus an overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Cleveland with dinner, breakfast, and valet parking all included. In recruitment news,  We’ve made it all the way up to 5,221 youth members in Lake Erie Council! Let’s keep up the good work and make October just as awesome as September was! Cub Fun Day is taking place at Firelands Scout reservation on Saturday, November 8th from 9am to 4pm. Activities will include archery, BB’s, slingshots, fishing, apple smashing, and more. 3-Minute Update - September 11, 2025

Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host, Tyler Matthews coming to you from our membership tracker! We’re up to 4855 youth served in Lake Erie Council! We KNOW that we can get over 5000 by the end of September, but can we get to 5300 by then? Let’s get into this week’s news.

Speaking of training, EDGE training at Beaumont is on September 27th, EDGE at  Firelands on October 25th, and at the Unit Service center on November 15th. Scoutmaster Basic Training is at Beaumont from September 12th-14th. Register for all these training courses and more online at the council calendar.

Registration for Cub Haunted is open! The first three weekends happening of October are a spooky fun time for the whole family. Make sure you and your pack are signed up to attend!

Cub Scouts looking to earn their Champions for Nature Loop can attend one of the remaining sessions on September 16th, 23rd 25th, or 30th at The Adventure Lab from 4:30-6pm. Attend as a pack, den, or just you and your family! Sessions are $15 and parents and guardians attending are free. Register today!

For Scouts BSA the Adventure Lab is kicking off its Fall Program in September with some exciting programs! For Second class Scouts and up, attend a 2 part first aid badge lab on September 9th and 30th, For Scouts 14+, we have a Personal Management Badge Lab on September 11th, All scouts can attend the Disability Awareness Badge Lab on September 16th, Safety Badge Lab on Sept 23rd, Chemistry Badge Lab on Sept 25th, and bring your non-scout friends to an Engineering Exploration on Sept 27th! The national catholic committee on Scouting camporee is being held from October 17th-19th 2025. This “Pilgrims of Hope” camporee is open to all scouts, not just Catholic units. You can find more information here and for any questions contact Jim Hickey.

Beaumont’s Wilderness Engineers weekend is September 12th-14th! No special skills necessary, just the desire to help bring the Scouting program to all youth through a positive camping experience. Meals & housing are provided! Wilderness Engineers is open to anyone who is 18 years old or older!
