Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host Tyler Matthews coming to you from First Energy Stadium where the Cleveland Browns are gearing up to disappoint us once again! But hey, ya know what isn’t disappointing? Popcorn! Popcorn sales can really boost a unit’s program by offering a wonderful learning experience for Scouts and by putting money into the units’ activities. The selling season has only just begun and there is still time for your unit to get involved! Let’s go ahead and jump into this weeks news!
Did you know that most people think a pirate’s favorite letter is R? The truth is, their first love is the C. Anyways, it’s time to start planning for your unit’s trip to this years Cub Haunted! This pirate themed spooktacular event is full of cider making, pumpkin bowling, jack o lantern carving, haunted trails, rock walls, range and target activities, plus more fall fun for the whole family! We have three weekends of fun planned, happening October 2nd – 4th , 9th – 11th , and 16th – 18th at Beaumont Scout Reservation. This event offers both tent camping and lodge stays but register now to make sure your unit gets the spot you want! Register now and if you have any questions, you can reach out to Anthony Dworning.
The Scout shop has a sale on uniforms! From now until October 31st scouts can get 20% off the purchase of a full uniform when purchased all at once. You can also get 10% off your uniform bottoms with the purchase of a uniform shirt through December 31st. Stop in and visit Paula in the scout shop for all your uniform needs! Did you also know you can earn a free recruiter strip for referring a friend to join Scouting? Bring a friend, fill out a simple postcard, and bring it to the Scout shop to claim your patch!
Unit leaders! Is your unit pin on my.scouting up to date? As new families begin looking for a unit to join, your pin will provide the first impression of your unit to many families looking to join. It’s always a good idea to make sure your unit’s meeting information, contact person, and other relevant information is up to date. If you are a key 3 member of your unit, sign into my.scouting, navigate to organization manager and then unit pin to check yours and update it. If you have any questions or issues with your unit pin, please reach out to your unit service executive for assistance.

Scoutmaster Basic Training (Sept 11-13 at Beaumont) will give you all the tools you need to lead and train the youth of your Scout Troop. And we'll do it in an outdoor experience that will give you a lived appreciation for the challenges of a youth learning to lead in a weekend campout. Also happening September 11th- 13th is our Wilderness engineers’ weekend at Beaumont. If you are at least 18 years old and want to give back to our beautiful camp, then this is the perfect event for you! No special skills needed, just a positive attitude and a willingness to help out! Sunday, September 13th will be our annual Stewards of Beaumont event! If you are passionate about seeing improvements happen around Beaumont and want an awesome meal, then we would love to have you join us for this special day. The council service center has a LARGE stock of American Flags waiting to be retired. If your unit is planning a flag retirement ceremony and needs flags, please contact Heather McMillan to flags and arrange pick up.
Lake Erie Council is looking for a friendly, knowledgeable Scouter to join our Member Care Team at the Unit Service Center. This is a great opportunity for someone who knows Scouting, enjoys helping people, and is looking for a meaningful part-time role of approximately 20–30 hours per week. Responsibilities include answering phone calls and emails, helping Scouters get answers or connect with the right staff member, assisting with registration and advancement processing, preparing recruitment materials, supporting our Unit Service Team, and helping with other day-to-day needs at the Unit Service Center.
