3-Minute Update - March 26, 2026

Hey everyone, welcome to this week’s 3-minute update. I’m your host Tyler Matthews, coming to you from I-90 where my favorite spring flower, the Orange Barrel has started to bloom! Have you seen them out and about in your travels yet? Anyways, let’s get into this weeks news!

Starting off with a big reminder for everyone that the new Safeguarding Youth Training must be completed by all adult volunteers by May 31st of this year. You can take the course by signing into your profile on my.scouting.org but hurry, we expect traffic to the website to pickup as we approach the deadline so don’t delay!

Are you a new Scoutmaster or ASM? Scoutmaster Basic Training will give you all the tools you need to lead and train the youth of your Scout Troop.  And we'll do it in an outdoor experience that will give you a lived appreciation for the challenges of a youth learning to lead in a weekend campout.  We have two sessions scheduled for 2026 - April 10-12 at Firelands and September 11-13 at Beaumont.  Register now at the link provided. Registration

Well, hey there partner! The “Going West” Spring camporee is happening at Firelands Scout reservation from April 17-19. Early bird registration ends March 31! Y’all don’t be late for this now, ya hear? Register today! Yee-Haw!

Join us for Basic Adult Leadership Outdoor Orientation training, or as we like to call it BALOO! Baloo is offered in both the spring and fall, April 25th and 26th at Firelands, and September 19th and 20th at Beaumont. The course runs from 8am on Saturday until noon on Sunday. This training is required for Cub Scout Packs to host their own campouts. It’s a good idea to have several BALOO trained leaders to make sure your pack camping experiences go smoothly. The cost is $35 with an optional $10 extra if you’d like to camp out Friday night as well. We need at least 8 attendees to hold the course, so don’t delay, sign up today! If you have any questions, please email Becca Setty

Trash the Trash is happening on May 2nd! Units are encouraged to set up a cleanup in their own communities, or they can join one of the two locations being coordinated by the Lake Erie Council. Each Scout is encouraged to bring a friend or family member along and pick up at least 2 pounds of trash to help out during the event and see what service in Scouting is all about. Register now and if you have any questions you can reach out to Tyler Matthews.

Beaumont Wilderness Engineers Weekends are returning for 2026 with 2 weekends! May 1-3 and September 11-13 - no special skills are necessary, just a willingness to make Beaumont the best camp it can be. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to volunteer for this event. Sign up now!

Scouts Read Sacred Texts Worldwide is a week-long event to encourage youth to read their sacred texts in conjunction with the U.S. National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 7th. The event aligns with the values, principles, and spiritual aims of Scouting. It is intended for Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, Advisors, and other adult leaders seeking a simple, respectful way to support a Scout’s Duty to God. If you have any questions or wish to get involved with the event, you can visit the website for more details.

The annual stewards of Firelands meeting will be on May 11th at Firelands Scout Reservation. Generous contributions provided by Stewards have generated the funds needed to complete many projects at camp. Come support the success of Firelands for years to come! Registration for this event must be completed online. If you have any questions, reach out to Danny Thomas.
